Information Report - Bald Eagle

Bald Eagle
by: Lachlan Gavin

I am learning to write an information report

Imagine you’re a fish swimming happily and suddenly, you're flying in mid air, then everything goes black. You have just become a bald eagle’s dinner. The bald eagle can be found in North America, which allows it to feed on many fresh fish from the rivers and lakes across the region. The Bald Eagle is a national symbol of America. This giant bird once was endangered in 1967, but luckily nowadays has recovered and can still be seen flying across the skies of America.  So what can you expect to see if a Bald Eagle was flying above you?

Features
The name bald eagle would suggest that they are bald, however they are not.  The female bald eagle is larger than the male. The female is 89-93 centimeters and has a wingspan 2-2.28 meters and the male is 76-86 centimeters and a wingspan of 1.82-2.15. It has long talons so it doesn’t touch the water and grab a fish. The bald eagle can glide up to a amazing speed of 160km so it’s faster than a car on the motorway. It weighs up to three to seven kg, like a pumpkin. Bald eagles have a hooked beak so their food doesn't fall out .

Habitat
The bald eagle is found in north america mostly in Baja, California, Florida and Alaska. They can fly up to 56-70 kilometers per hour.It is found near water so that is why it likes to eat fish. They live in tall trees.

Diet
A bald eagle eats fish and other food that is easy to obtain so like small birds and big fish. It can lift 5kgs so it can lift a baby deer that will feed the family for a while. It eats so much fish it has a good source of omega 3. Bald eagles are carnivores so they fight for there food against animals like pelicans.

The bald eagle is a carnivore it eats easy to obtain prey. They have a white head and brown body. So next time you're flying in north America and you see a big bird you could be looking at a bald eagle.

Creative Writing - Over the Mountain

Over the Mountain
By Lachlan Gavin

I am learning to entertain my audience.

“Its just rabble, it’s all rabble!” Exclaimed Theo. Theo was devastated by the amount of damage Fear the dragon did with his hot lava like breath. The only people alive were Theo and May, they have never gotten along. But to kill the dragon they would have to work together. Theo nervously walked over to the blacksmith and found a bow and a couple of arrows. May found a bronze sword and food so off they went to start their quest.

As they started May asked, “do you know where you're going or are we lost?” Theo replied, “ I think we should stop at the murky river,” About half an hour later they stopped at the murky river but something bad happened someone had died but they had to carry on. The journey was long and to the birthplace of Fear May and Theo stopped along they met a poor man who was a friend of a blacksmith to make them some armor but the blacksmith said “I know a place you could get a horse to help you on your quest”. The travel was dangerous they had to cross Death Bridge, Spooky Valley and go through Devil Domain. Theo saw a baby dragon and hit it with an arrow. May told Theo, “the stars are coming up we should make camp here to sleep.

In the morning Theo got up at dawn to catch some food. May woke up at 7:00am which was around the time Theo had cooked the food which was an eagle and fox with butter it was delicious. Suddenly it started to rain heavily so they took a shortcut through the spikey forest. Theo saw that the mountain in the village where Fear was born.

May looked down at a piece of rope on the muddy ground, May look at Theo and said, “Theo stop were at Death Bridge.” But Theo didn't stop and the rope started to unravel a plank snapped and jolted Theo painfully but he made it across! May started to cross when she slipped but got hold of a perfectly new plank, pulled herself up and made it across. Theo and May walked on they got to the terrifying spooky valley the most mossiest, and most misty place ever. They tried to run but the moss was alive and grabbing them! The moss had a tight grip on May but with a swing of her sword she cut her way to freedom and Theo managed to get but was very angry, “May why didn’t you help me?” May said nothing as they didn’t talk until they got to Devil Domain so they started to climb up the Domain and up the mountain to slay the dragon.

At the top they saw Fear sleeping. But the most odd thing was he had a saddle on his back. Later a tall man in dark clothes walked out at a furious pace and didn’t notice May and Theo. Just as he was starting to wake the dragon the man spotted Theo looking through the woven flax basket when Theo looked up the man was stained in front of him His scarf blowing in the freezing air. The man started to talk to Theo he said, “My name is Adam.” Adam was apparently the owner of Fear the dragon. May came out of the cave that Adam lives in and got a shock when she saw Adam. They looked at each other, May pulled out her shiny bronze sword Adam pulled out a dim dragon blood sword. They ran at each other with a swing of Adam's sword he split May’s sword in half then Theo jumped out of nowhere and kicked Adam off the mountain, May found Adam’s sword she ran up to the dragon and cut its head off!.
