Gorillas

By Ata-Marie Kerrison

I am learning to inform with an information report.

What is known as a herbivore but is a omnivore? Yes, a gorilla. This omnivore is known to live for 35 years and 50 years in captivity. The gorilla uses body gestures and sounds to communicate to others. They are found mostly in West Central Africa.

Living
A troop of gorillas live in an area called a territory, this is where they find all there food. It can be as large as 50 square kilometres. Some troops have a routine to sort out their day. Gorillas sleep for around 13 hours, this includes noon. About 6pm, they form a sleeping nest by bending branches to make a cushion. The nest may be on the ground or in low branches. The young gorillas sleep with their mother until they are 3 years old, some family groups move to a new feeding space everyday.

Feeding
Gorillas feed on berries, leaves, plants, fruits etc this is the feast of the gorilla. One male can eat up to 18kg of food, 67% of their diet is known to be fruit, 17% is leaves seed stems, and 3% termites and caterpillars. The gorillas favourite food are thistles, bamboo and wild celery. Did you know the gorilla does not drink yes, it doesn't they get all the liquid from the food they munch. A full grown male gorilla are known to eat around 23kg that's more than 7, 3kg bags of potatoes!.

In conclusion a gorilla sleeps on the ground or in low branches and gorillas don’t drink water. The gorillas favourite food is wild celery, thistles and bamboo. This is a hairy version of a human.
